Statutory Holidays Canada Discussion Forum 2021
National reconciliation holuday should be for all Canadian workers. To not be is discriminatory.
Morning,
I have a question about the new stat on September 30.
There seems to be a lot of confusion in the work place surrounding this new stat. Is it only for Federally regulated workplaces only?
We are a private business, if we choose to close and acknowledge the day are we mandated to pay our staff?
National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is a statutory holiday for the federal sector and federally regulated businesses only. It is not a paid day off for the rest of the us.
Need Clarification
Is the Sept 30th National Day of Truth and Reconciliation as Stauatory Holiday for the Public? Are Small businesses required to close and pay their employees?
i heard rumours that the new holiday on September 30th only applies to government employees, is this true?
A little unclear on the new Sept 30 holiday as I am a small buisness owner and not sure if it applies to us or just Government employees?
I see many questions asking the same thing.. is this new STAT on Sep 30 for all or just for federal employees but I am not seeing any replies. Does anyone have the answer?
Is September 30th a holiday for Federal employees only? or is it a National Statutory Holiday for all Canadians?
Thank you for your response
Can you advise if September 30th is now a statutory holiday for all businesses in BC? We are not a government business.
I as well cannot find clear information if National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is a holiday in Ontario for all workers or just federal workers. Does anyone know? My work says we do not get it off because it is federal but Victoria Day, Thanksgiving, Civic Holiday, and Boxing Day are also federal stat holidays and we get them off. The only ones we do not get off are Easter Monday and Remembrance day.
I understand that if a stat holiday falls during a weekend, the holiday shall be given either on the following Monday or the Friday before. However, what about New Years 2022? It falls on a Saturday. If not given on the following Monday, can it be given on the Friday before, considering that the Friday before is technically « last year »? Can anyone please clarify, with law, that this is possible?
Easter Monday and Remembrance Day should both be a National Holiday for all Canadians and paid holiday for all workers.
Is it mandatory to close a retail financial businesses in st John's on regatta day.. we are new to.the city..
New Truth and Reconciliation Day - Sept 30th.
Greetings, I hope you don't mind me contacting you about this but I cannot locate the information anywhere.
I work in retail and am wondering if the new Truth and Reconciliation Day will mean stores will be closed in Ontario that day.
They say it's a Federal Statutory Holiday so that suggests yes. But, Remembrance Day is also a Federal Statutory Holiday so that suggests no.
I've asked many people and nobody has the answer to this.
Can you shed some light on this as to whether or not retail stores will be open on Sept 30th of this year?
Hello,
For the August 2nd Civic Holiday, we do not see Nova Scotia listed.
Can you confirm whether the August 2nd Civic Holiday is applicable to Nova Scotia?
Best Regards
I think Manitoba needs to be updated:
Terry Fox Day August 2
Can Canada Day be moved from a Thursday to a Friday? from the 1st to the 2nd)
Good Evening
Wondering if you could possibly clarify if grocery stores in NL are mandated to close on Victoria Day and if Gas Stations are exempt? I recently started a job as restaurant/sales manager and we can not seem to find anything listed on government sites however we may be looking in the wrong place. Thanks Helena Riche
You have Nunavut Day celebrated in the Northwest Territories, but not in Nunavut. Probably an error needing correcting,
I don't understand. Not EVERYONE has weekends off! So why is Easter Sunday not a stat holiday as well? I have to work Good Friday and Easter Sunday, but on Sunday I get paid regular wages as though it were any other Sunday? It's not! And we should get stat pay for working that day!
'How come Quebec celebrates Easter Monday instead of Good Friday? Who knows, . .."
With the Quiet Revolution, Quebec went through a period of deliberate anti-clericalism, and religious holidays as statutory holidays were an easy target; the state-owned liquor stores are no longer closed on Ascension Day, for instance. Good Friday is still marked by the Roman Catholic Church and some Protestant denominations, but not by the civil government.
You have a mistake on your Ontario statutory holidays. In one spot you say Ontario is the only province with Boxing Day as a stat holiday, but then on your list, you have asterisk beside it and say only Federal Gov't employees get Boxing Day off by law. In fact, your first statement is correct - Boxing Day is a legal holiday in Ontario, but it wasn't up until about 15-20 years ago, however most employers were giving it off with pay anyway, or were closed anyway and people received a day off without pay, but then the law was changed add it as a stat holiday.
we have employees in each Canadian Province. We want to take one of our designated company holidays and switch it to a Personal holiday, a day that employees can take off when ever they want. My concern: If any of our current designated holidays are mandated by provincial laws: New Years, Family day, Good Friday, Victoria Day, Canada day, Civic Holiday, Labour Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas eve, Christmas Day, Boxing day. ANd if any of these are not mandatory, which one would you suggest replacing with a personal day? THank you
Can we not get rid of DST? I, for one am sick of it!
My wife and I worked for a old age home all if last year and the owner never paid any holidays worked for anybody apparently he hasn't since he bought the place a few years ago is this right and what can we do to get our money that he owes
Hello, is Easter Monday a statutory holiday in Ontario? If not, what type of holiday is it in Ontario?
So much for holidays in 2021. I'm not hopeful we'll get to travel anywhere this year either.
