2024 Canadian Statutory Holidays
Long weekend 2024 details and information about holidays in Canada in 2024.
Canada Day is on a Monday in 2024 to make for a long weekend for Monday-to-Friday employees. Taking an extra day off on the previous Friday or on Tuesday will no doubt be a popular choice to create a four day long weekend so be sure to coordinate with your employer and coworkers early on.
Easter in 2024 is on March 29 (Good Friday) and Easter Sunday is on March 31 approximately halfway between Family Day and Victoria Day. Easter Monday in 2024 is on April 1.
Remembrance Day is on Monday in 2024, which will no doubt result in renewed calls from Ontarians to make this a statutody holiday in Ontario so everyone can attend events to commemorate members of the armed forces and to recognize the significance of this day.
Christmas in 2024 is on a weekday: Christmas day is on a Wednesday and Boxing Day following on Thursday. This makes planning for the holidays easier unlike in previous years when Christmas was on a weekend.
National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is observed on September 30, which is a Monday in 2024. With the exception of British Columbia, PEI, Yukon, Manitoba and the Northwest Territories it is only a paid holiday for federally regulated workers. Add your comments to let us know what you think.

Is 2024 a leap year?
2024 is a leap year because it's divisible by 4. There are additional rules around leap years aside from divisibility by four, but these only matter once each century so for another 76 years we can just go by the 'divisible by 4' rule :)
What does the schoolyear start in 2024?
Most school boards across Canada in 2024 will start the schoolyear on Tuesday September 3, a day after Labour Day.
Daylight saving time in 2024
Moving the clock forward and back for daylight saving time is still in effect and in 2024 it starts on Sunday, March 10 and ends on Sunday, November 3. Efforts to implement permanent daylight saving time are slow-moving. Timing also needs to be coordinated with the United States due to Canada's close proximity and close trade relationship.

Do you find the provincial exceptions too complicated to remember? How you would change Canada's convoluted holiday system?

Pay the Federal Government employees while the people it's intended for get to work. We pay for yet another paid holiday with our tax dollars for them only on the backs of Indigenous Peoples. Makes me ill.
I appreciate those who are concerned that federal government employees receive the Truth and Reconciliate Day off however we are not entitled the provincial observance days off such as BC Day. So it all evens out in the end.
Let's be fair. All Canadians whether government employed or not should share the same paid holidays. The government employees certainly do not work any harder.
Funny how FEDERAL GOV'T gets a paid holiday for National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, but the people it's directly meant for, and the rest of the country have to go to work...
Truth and Reconciliation Day is NOT national stat holiday, it is just for federally regulated employees only, but not for everyone. We in Alberta do not get the day off while we get all other stats
Quebec is being disrespectful in calling it Fete fed Patriotes. Perhaps we can find an English name for St. Jean de Baptiste holiday.
Boxing Day is national.
A few small business owners complaining that too many stat holidays cost them too much and they can't afford this. Part of a sound business plan is to factor in holiday pay (along with sick days etc). I agree, there is confusion around what day is a holiday in which province but...
